Kalpana-The Power Of Imagination

Kalpana is the brainchild of my dear friend, Mihir Desai, an independent filmmaker from the States. The passionate storyteller that he is, he attempts to give this movie a very abstract, multi faceted feel, which for any person with a heart would be tugging!!

He defines independent filmmaking with the rawness in the video which is fascinating for many, as he himself says 'What is an independent movie without the shakes and drifts of the camera'.

Neways on a more formal note,,
The movie is a reminder to the human race about the power of imagination which is very much needed in theses times plagued by mishaps and terror. It touches the sensitive topic of death in a very subtle way and moves more or less on the lines of the hope themed movies with terminally ill patients. The story also emaphasizes on the power of stories to influence lives and add meaning to it.The director does not fail to show us his power of imagination with artistic landscapes and well thought of sets and locations. The movie could have been better in technical aspects especially the sound mixing and dubbing. But nonetheless the story holds fort!!Fine sustained acting gives the story the much needed impetus.

3 and a half stars

to Mihir Desai for his attempt. The story deserves a viewing and the story teller a pat on his back.

Hope he comes with a bigger, better and totally innovative next movie

till then

Believe in the power of imagination

PS-Though the review is a bit informal i hope it conveys the message, after all its a movie by my friend!and first in the list of movies to be reviewed by me!
